Two days. Two meals. Two cities. This weekend was pretty tasty!
Philly- home of Northern Liberties- home of El Camino (bbqburritobar.com)- home of veggie wings.
New York City- home of 6th and 23rd St- home of Terri (terrinyc.com)- home of the Buffalo “chicken” sandwich
I was completely on a buffalo kick this weekend and I’m not sure why, but everywhere I ate I ordered something with buffalo sauce! Thank goodness I did because I ate two of the best dishes I’ve had in awhile.
The veggie wings were crispy pieces of seitan flavored with homemade buffalo sauce served with carrots and celery. I swear it felt like I was eating a 50 piece bucket of buffalo wings (oh, those were the days). It was a very tasteful, satisfying and well executed attempt at a protein option for veggies at El Camino. Even my non-veg boyfriend thought they were tasty! YUM. Definitely going back for some more soon.
Now for the Buffalo “chicken” sandwich that I gladly polished off with a side of roasted sweet potatoes. The sandwich was served on warm pressed panini bread and buffalo sauce and vegainase oozed out the sides.
The “chicken” patty inside was tasty though a bit chewy and the buffalo sauce was a bit runny and messy, but together the sandwich was a hit with my tastebuds and I was impressed. The restaurant itself had so many options and my boyfriend and I (who is my partner in crime when hunting down vegan food ) stood staring up at the menu board not sure of which tasty sandwich or salad to choose! Not to mention the counter was lined with sweet treats that kept distracting us from ordering- YUM squared. We were overly impressed with the concept and the taste of our food and will surely make that a must when eating lunch in New York. I had no idea Terri was two blocks away from my culinary school, which was probably a good thing…now they’ll never get ride of me!
The possibilities are becoming more and more endless for us veggie heads and of course- as my boyfriend and I believe- for non-veggie heads alike. Check ‘em out- do some research and eat your way through a city- or two. You’ll be surprised as to what you may find!
